Outdoor brand Patagonia has opened its first Dutch shop in Amsterdam. The branch wants to be much more than just a shop: customers can also have clothes mended, borrow books or watch documentaries there.
From raving to reading
Opposite Amsterdam’s flower market at the Singel canal, Patagonia’s first Dutch shop now welcomes nature lovers. Beyond just selling Patagonia products, the outdoor chain also wants to “give back and be a gift our community“, Retail Manager EMEA Tom Vangeneugden stated on LinkedIn.
The shop is said to be an ode to Amsterdam, the city that already is home to Patagonia’s European headquarters. The building itself also has a lot of history: it used to be where ravers found the RoXY nightclub, for many years “the unofficial epicentre of Amsterdam’s rave scene”.
A large share of the shop is therefore dedicated to other activities, such as the permanent repair corner next to the entrance, where customers can have damaged Patagonia gear repaired. There is also a library, where visitors can borrow or buy books. Furthermore, the shop also organises or supports local environmental actions and regularly holds lectures, film screenings or other events.
